Upon completion of this unit of study, each student will be able to complete the following objectives with 76% accuracy.
Name the four blood groups in the ABO system and state their frequencies in the United States.
Explain the inheritance of the ABO blood groups.
Name the blood group antigens and antibodies in the ABO system.
Explain forward and reverse grouping.
Perform ABO tube grouping and interpret the results.
Describe grading of agglutination in tube grouping.
Discuss the importance of using controls and following quality assessment policies in the blood bank.
Explain the importance of the Rh blood group system.
Discuss the antigens of the Rh system and explain how they are inherited.
Perform Rh D tube testing.
Interpret the results of Rh D typing.

Margaret Patrick, MLS (ASCP) Hello class! I am your Blood Bank instructor, Mrs. Patrick. I have been a blood bank technologist since 2010. I have experience in hospital and reference laboratories. Outside of my love for transfusion medicine I also have a wonderful family that I enjoy spending most of my free time with. When I find myself alone with some downtime I also enjoy reading, knitting, and crochet! I hope this class will help pique your interest in blood banking! We will be utilizing several different learning techniques. I have developed many resources with the intentions of reaching all types of preferred learning.
